Welcome to Mostert's Mill

Mostert’s Mill was the last remaining windmill still working in Africa and more than 200 years old.

Tragically it was badly damaged by a fire on the 18th April 2021. A vegetation fire started on the lower slopes of Devils Peak and quickly spread. A spark blew over the M3 and caught the mill’s thatch roof alight. All the wooden machinery was destroyed in the fire. What remains is the masonry tower, the sails, the millstones, the original ironmongery (which was salvaged from the ashes) and the knowledge of the Friends of Mosterts Mill gained over 25 years of operating and maintaining the mill. We are determined to restore the mill back to its original state before the fire and are currently working towards that end.
